I’m delighted to announce that the first exhibition of Home Work will open at The Mercer Art Gallery in Harrogate on Saturday, 5th September.
The opening reception will be on Saturday, 12th September 12-2pm.

On Wednesday, I will be travelling to Madrid to take part in Descubriemientos PHE Madrid, PHotoEspañas annual portfolio review that gives photographers the opportunity to show their work to curators, gallery owners, critics, editors and publishers specialising in Photography in order to generate new professional possibilities.
The 70 photographers’ works which were selected by open submission will be included in a collective exhibition at the Complejo El Aguila.

The North Yorkshire Open Studios ’09 are taking place on 20/21 and 26/27/28 June. Although I don’t have a studio open, to coincide with this event some ‘work in progress’ from my Inspired by Heritage residency at Newby Hall will be on show in the Grantham Room restaurant at Newby Hall. Also, as part of the events programme, in the Grantham Room I will be running family workshops using photography and digital imaging techniques on Sunday 21st and Sunday 28th June, 11am to 4pm. gamekeeper n. a person employed to take care of game, as on an estate
Newby employs 2 gamekeepers (a headkeeper and an underkeeper) to maintain their pheasant (and partridge) shoot. I’ve been fascinated by gamekeeping for while, whilst working in Nidderdale I spent a lot of time with the gamekeepers looking after the grouse moorland. As well as the gamekeepers, shooting has a lot of other occupations on the actual shoot days which have intriguing names associated with it: beater, flanker, birdman …

Much of the past few weeks have been spent getting to grips with Newby Hall where I am currently artist in residence and finally I feel like I can find my way around a bit and am getting to know who’s who.
The Hall and gardens are currently closed to the public for Winter so I feel its been a great privilege to be able to see the Estate during this time.

Back in early 2008 I posted off my CD of images and proposal for the BJP’s Project Assistance Award from Hanoi (wondering if it would even get there!) and was lucky enough to get featured in the 5th March issue of the BJP.

I’m very excited to be one of 6 artists selected for Art Connections ‘Inspired by Heritage’ residency programme. During 2009 I will be artist in residence at Newby Hall near Ripon, a private Georgian family home and garden owned by the Compton family. The house and garden is open to the public between April and September. I will be producing new work for an exhibition and running a series of community workshops.

It is almost six months since we returned from Hanoi, however I called in for three days on my way back from China to see for myself the changes beginning to take place following the announcement of Hanoi’s expansion into a “super city”.
Officially designated on 7th August, the expansion makes Hanoi the 17th largest capital city in the world with 6.2 million people, double the previous population. Hà Tây no longer exists as a separate province.
“This adjustment has sprung from the country’s demand for development opportunities for the new capital.”

On Sunday I will be leaving UK for two weeks to undertake a short trip to Yunnan province in China returning via Hanoi for 3 days to put those finishing touches to Home Work – weather permitting as Hanoi is rumoured to be unseasonally waist deep in rainwater at the moment!
